Biography

Professor N. Venkiteswaran was a faculty with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) from 1988 till his retirement in 2014. He served as Director of Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai (TN) during 2017-19 and earlier during 2010-12 on leave from IIMA. He is a graduate in Economics from Madurai Kamaraj University and a Chartered Accountant (CA), having passed the CA examinations with distinction. He was also the recipient of medals for outstanding scholastic performance in the Post-graduate Management Accountancy Course (Part I) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He brings with him rich and varied experience both in the academia and in industry.

At IIMA Professor Venkiteswaran has taught, besides core courses in Strategic Management, Financial Management and Managerial Accounting, specialised and highly acclaimed courses on Mergers, Acquisitions, Corporate Restructuring, Company and Business Valuation and Corporate Governance in the post-graduate as well as executive education programmes. He has also published cases and articles in these areas. He has also been Chairperson of the Business Policy as well Finance and Accounting areas at IIMA on various occasions.

He was a visiting scholar with Group Essec, Cergy, France under Euro-India Exchange Programme during 1991-92. He was also nominated by the National Foundation of Corporate Governance/Ministry of Company Affairs, Government of India as a member of the Indian delegation to participate in a Trainers’ workshop on Corporate Governance conducted by the Global Corporate Governance Forum, a World-Bank affiliate in June 2005 in the Washington, DC.

He continues to pursue his varied professional interests spanning management education, corporate governance, corporate strategies, strategic, financial and structuring aspects of mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring and stakeholder value management issues. He has been a consultant and trainer to leading corporates in the areas of corporate and financial strategies, mergers, restructuring and corporate governance. He also served as Independent Director on the Boards of companies such as Bharat Oman Refineries Limited, Fino Payments Bank Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Virgo Engineers Limited, Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited, Gujarat State Petronet Limited etc.

He was a member of the Takeover Regulations Advisory Committee constituted in 2009 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) under the chairmanship of Shri C. Achuthan to review India’s Takeover Regulations. Earlier he was a member of the Central Direct Taxes Advisory Committee, Ministry of Finance, Government of India (2005-08) and a member the Study Group on Mutual Funds set up by the Government of India (1991) for evolving an appropriate regulatory framework for the mutual funds industry in India. He has also served as a member of special committees/task forces constituted by/at the instance of the Government of Gujarat.

Previously he had held managerial positions in companies such as Rallis India Limited, Mumbai and Tube Investments of India Limited, Chennai etc. in a career spanning nearly 15 years.
